Actress, director, producer and author. She studied journalism at Universidade Federal Fluminense in 1971 and began her studies in theater with Maria Clara Machado. She joined the board of teachers of O Tablado. Under the direction of Maria Clara Machado, she starred in several shows for children and adults’ theater. In 1976, she founded the company of clowns Irmãos Flagelo, directed by Zdenek Hampl, a group that played a pioneering role in the development of performative theater and street theatre in Rio de Janeiro.
Since 1979, has a great success and recognition on television. She participated on many soap operas at Globo and Manchete televisions channel. Many of then were success also in Portugal, such as: Dancin Days;Marron Glacée;Plumas e Paetés;Selva de Pedra; Barriga de Aluguel; Era uma Vez.. She worked with great and important directors such as: Ziembinski, Paulo José, Daniel Filho, Herval Rossano among others.
Sura were also on great movies, such as: Ajuricaba, Oswaldo Caldeira, 1977; Coronel Delmiro Gouveia, Geraldo Sarno, 1978; Os Sete Gatinhos, Neville d’Almeida, baseado na obra de Nélson Rodrigues, 1980; Noites do Sertão, Carlos Alberto Prates, 1984; O Cavalinho Azul, Eduardo Escorel, 1984, a great classic of children’s movies, that she particpated as actress and co-scriptwriter; O Vestido, Paulo Thiago, 2003; Meu Nome Não é Johnny, Mauro Lima , 2008; and Diário de Tati, Mauro Farias, 2012.
In 1980, she started to dedicate to children’s literature. She wrote: Amor de Cão, Um Peixe Fora d’Água and Os Olhos da Cara. Those books were used on many school throughout Brasil. Since 1987, directed and produced her own musical plays for childrens and teenagers, with great success and excelent reviews, besides the many awards. On those productions, she worked along with important names of creative teams of the brasilian theatre: Edu Lobo, Ubirajara Cabral and Jorginho de Carvalho. About her productions on adult theatre, the great success was: Cócegas, starred by Heloísa Périssé and Ingrid Guimarães, with more than 1 million public and 12 years on stage. At the same time, Cosquinha, for children, had great audience and reviews, also gaining many awards.
She starred great dramas of one of the most important brazilian writers Nelson Rodrigues: Valsa n 6, with Cláudia Gimenez; Sorotéia and A Serpente, this one was the last procuction of Rodrigues plays while he was alive.
Between 1988 and 2000, she teaches at her own drama school, Curso de Teatro sura Berditchevsky, at Teatro Villa-Lobos, Rio de Janeiro.
She is one of the founders of Coca-Cola Theatre Award for Children. She was on the jury for four years. At the last years, she was member of many juries.
Currently, she teaches at her own school besides at O Tablado.
